How can I maximize my storage space?« Back to Questions List

We are manufacturers of Solar Panels. At present we have 40 stock keeping units, which we are planning to increase to around 60 SKUs. We are setting up a warehouse near our manufacturing plant. We are planning for G + 3 racking but are still falling short of storage space. I cannot shift the warehouse outside as it has to be closer to the manufacturing plant. How can I maximize my storage space.

Thanks for sharing your query with us. Going for vertical storage is a good way of increasing your storage capacity. Another aspect which impacts your storage efficiency is the type of racking system you are using in the warehouse.

You have not mentioned, what type of racks you have considered for your space calculations. Also we would need more information on your operations to suggest you the best storage option for you.

If we assume that you are in B2B business and most of your inbound and outbound operations are in palletized form, we would suggest you to go for Pallet flow racking or shuttle racking systems. These systems are costlier compared to traditional HDR racks and double deep racks but are capable of enhancing your storage space efficiency by 30 – 40 %.
These racking systems are best suited if you have limited stock keeping units and would work fine with 40 – 60 SKUs.

If you can provide us with more details of your operations and processes, we would be able to suggest you the best fit storage solution for you.
